"Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire.

OK, boys and girls, more 60s one-hit wonders: This 1965 P.F. Sloan composition was initially offered to, and rejected by, The Byrds. It was instead recorded by a former member of The New Christy Minstrels. Sloan played guitar on the original recording. The "rough" vocal track was "leaked" and released without polishing - still hit #1 in Sept. '65. It is considered by many to be "the mother of all protest songs". Speaks of imminent apocalypse in the age of cold war, Nam, nukes and Civil Rights. Singer? Song? Answer: "Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_38SWIIKITE
